Westside Vacation Rental Cabins
The Stevens Pass area has a great deal to offer in outdoor recreation and adventure. Whether you want to go white water rafting , fishing , hiking, downhill or cross country skiing at Stevens Pass Ski Area , powder skiing/boarding with Cascade Powder Cats , snowshoeing , or mountain biking , there are always plenty of outdoor activities to keep you busy.

The southern leg of the Cascade Loop, US Highway 2, sweeps and winds its way through the mountains of the lush Northcentral Cascades, paralleling the Skykomish and Wenatchee rivers. This is arguably one of the most scenic drives in the country.

The drive is enjoyable anytime of the year, however it is especially scenic during the late summer/early fall, when the leaves are beginning to turn color. If you're traveling during the winter, be sure to carry chains and check the pass report . The road is well maintained, however conditions can change quickly so you will want to be prepared .

Vacation Rental Cabins There is so much to see along the drive. You could spend days on end exploring all of the hidden treasures tucked away off of US 2. Click here to read a great article featuring some of those fun sights and activities.

History

Stevens Pass got its moniker from renowned engineer John Frank Stevens , who was principal in building the Great Northern Railroad and the Cascade Tunnel , a 7.8 mile train tunnel drilled right through the Cascade Mountains from Berne on the east side of the summit to Scenic on the west side .

As Stevens was responsible for bringing transportation to the region, two young men from Seattle were responsible for realizing a ski area. During the winter of 1937-38 , Don Adams and Bruce Kehr, both avid skiers, set out to construct Stevens Pass Ski Area on Big Chief Mountain and Cowboy Mountain .

Alpine Skiing

Alpine (or downhill) skiing is the area's most popular attraction. With a top elevation of 5,845 feet and an average of 450 inches of snowfall a year, Stevens Pass Ski Area offers some of the best skiing in the Cascades with 1125 acres of ski terrain with 37 runs and “numerous bowls, glades and faces .” And for the enthusiast that just can't get enough duing the daylight hours, Stevens Pass offers night skiing with up to six lifts open an numerous lighted runs.

Vacation Rental Cabins For the ultimate pristine powder skiing and boarding experience, Cascade Powder Cats' excursions are unmatched! Leavenworth History

As a major hub for the Great Northern Railroad in the early 1900s, Leavenworth was a bustling center for commerce in Chelan County . When the railroad hub relocated to Wenatchee in the 1920s, Leavenworth experienced a downturn of economic activity. In the 1960s, a committee, Project LIFE (Leavenworth Improvement for Everyone), made efforts to revive the area's economy and turned its small downtown into a mock Bavarian village. Now, Leavenworth is a destination for those looking to get away to the mountains. The town has a fabulous Oktoberfest celebration in October and Christmas tree lighting ceremony in early December, which are the main events that draw people to the area.
